Watch Roddy Ricch’s performance at the Apple Music Awards

2020 was a breakout year for Roddy Ricch. He started off with a Grammy win for Nipsey Hussle‘s “Rack in the Middle.” By November, the Compton rapper landed six Grammy-nominations from his double-platinum debut, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial.  Now, Roddy can add honors for Top Album of the Year and Top Song, for “The Box,” at the second annual Apple Music Awards Wednesday night.

“I feel like this era [is] the beginning era, is what I like to call it. To have the Top Song and Album of the Year is everything because it doesn’t constrict me to a genre,” says Roddy during a voiceover before his performance. “It doesn’t constrict me to any type of limitations or walls. It shows people where I’m from you can knock down any barrier and be on top of the game if you put your mind to it.”

Roddy’s 16-minute set performance was more like a movie. He opened with “War Baby,” joined by a four-person choir, and transitioned through different production sets performing “The Box” and his “Rockstar (Remix)” with DaBaby, as well as “Start Wit Me,” “High Fashion,” and “Ballin.”

In a statement near the video’s end, Roddy made sure to let everyone know that “every precaution was taken for the protection of staff, crew and performers” regarding the pandemic.

You can watch Roddy’s full performance on YouTube. Tune into Apple Music tomorrow at 8 p.m. EST for a performance from Atlanta rapper Lil Baby.
