Questlove teams up with MasterClass to teach music curation and DJing

Questlove has teamed up with MasterClass to give subscribers the gift of music.

Starting Thursday, February 25, MasterClass members will have immediate access to classes by Questlove where he will teach music curation and DJing. The Grammy Award–winning musician and Roots drummer will share his creative process, including how he picks songs and breaks down their musical attributes.

On the DJing side, Questlove will provide a series of demonstrations starting with the basics of DJing to scratching and segues for music sets. For members who desire a more advanced class, Questlove will also cover live loop creation, phasing, beat juggling and more.

“It’s one thing to listen to music, but it’s another thing to embrace it and have it come to you,” said Questlove in a statement. “Nothing will take the place of the passion that I feel for music, and I hope my MasterClass will open up a portal in your heart so that you learn to love music, find it and appreciate it.”

This is the latest venture from The Tonight Show musical director, who, in addition to being a DJ, producer, and New York Times bestselling author, recently made his directorial debut with the feature documentary Summer of Soul.

Up next, Questlove has signed on to direct a new documentary about the career and legacy of Sly Stone.

Questlove’s class is now available exclusively on MasterClass, where subscribers get unlimited access to all 100+ instructors with an annual membership.
