New David Crosby solo album, ‘For Free,’ set for July release

David Crosby‘s latest solo album is titled For Free, and is scheduled to be released on July 23.

Crosby unveiled the release date, as well as the album’s cover art, in a post on his official Facebook page. The 79-year-old folk-rock legend also will release one of the album’s tracks — a song called “River Rise,” featuring Michael McDonald — as an advance single via streaming services this Friday, May 21. You can pre-save the tune now.

In an interview with American Songwriter published this past November, Crosby noted of the McDonald collaboration, “I had been begging him for years to write a single and he finally did. It’s killer.”

The album’s title track is a cover of a 1970 Joni Mitchell song. As David told American Songwriter, the record also will feature “a great tune called ‘Rodriguez Tonight,"” to which Steely Dan‘s Donald Fagen contributed lyrics.
